A Lake City client brought us his Chaparral for a boat stereo system upgrade. He wanted his ski boat to not only sound good inside, but he also wanted skiers to be able to enjoy the music while skiing. We went over a few options with the client and scheduled the appointment.
Boat Stereo System Electronics Upgrade
The first part of this boat stereo system we tackled was upgrading the electronics. We started by replacing the radio with a Fusion Marine RA210 radio. The RA210 features a bright, full-color display and multiple zone outputs. The next step was to add multiple Rockford Fosgate marine amplifiers to the boat. We used two M2-300/4 amplifiers and one M2-500/1 amplifier. One of the M2-300/4 amplifiers was used to power the boat speakers, while the other M2-300/4 was bridged to power the tower speakers. The mono M2-500/1 amplifier was used to power the single subwoofer. The three amplifiers were mounted to a white HDPE (Starboard) mount that we fabricated. The amplifiers and mounting plate were secured with stainless steel hardware. The last piece of electronics to add was the Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB lighting controller. The PMX-RGB controller allows the client to use the RF Connect app on his smartphone to control the speaker lighting.
Rockford Fosgate Speaker Upgrade
Once the electronics were upgraded we moved on to the speaker in the boat. The existing 6.5″ speakers were replaced with Rockford Fosgate M2-65 coaxial speakers. These are Rockford’s premium marine audio speakers, and they sound great. They crank out the music loudly and crystal clear.
To give the bottom end of the music more impact, we added a Rockford Fosgate M2-10″ subwoofer. The subwoofer was mounted in front of the passenger seat. The subwoofer is designed to use the boat hull cavity as its’ enclosure.
Tower Speaker Addition
To make sure the passengers who chose to ski were able to enjoy the music in the boat, we added a pair of Rockford Fosgate M2WL-8HB tower speakers. These speakers are incredible. They utilize a horn-loaded tweeter and an 8″ woofer to reproduce the music at concert levels.
We took extra time to route the speaker wiring through both sides of the tower rig, so no wires were visible. While we were installing and wiring the speakers, we also fixed the light the client had installed on the tower.
Great Sound Boat Stereo System
Our final steps were to tune the amplifiers to ensure the client could safely crank up the system and clean up the boat for delivery. Once the boat was tuned and cleaned, it was time for our favorite part, delivery! We are always excited to show off our work to our clients and see their happy smiles, rewarding us for our jobs well done.
