We have worked on quite a few Jeeps during the years. We like them because they are relatively straightforward to work on, and it is easy to improve the sound over the factory audio systems. Most Jeep clients like modifying their vehicles, and we love modifying vehicles, a perfect match!
The owner of this Rubicon came to us wanting to upgrade the bass in his Jeep.
Rockford Fosgate Amplifier
When we put together a system for a Jeep owner, we start by finding out how they use their vehicle. Keywords we listen for are “topless”, “water,” or “mud”. We want to know if the Jeep will be out in the elements getting wet inside and outside. This knowledge helps drive us to the gear selection. Those words weren’t used in the conversation with the owner, so we knew we could use traditional car audio gear. For those of you who might sink your Jeep, don’t worry; we have a broad line of marine and powersports equipment that can take the punishment!
Since the client would be keeping his Jeep high and dry, we use a Rockford Fosgate R2 amplifier to power the subwoofer we add. The amplifier was mounted under the rear seat, and the wiring was safely concealed. The client didn’t necessarily want any additional holes added to his Jeep, so we mounted the remote level control for the amplifier under the dash.
JL Audio Jeep Bass Upgrade
The additional output for this Jeep bass upgrade would come from a JL Audio BassWedge. The BassWedge features a single W0 subwoofer in a slot-vented design. The large vent helps to increase output and reduce distortion. We used quick-connect terminals on the subwoofer speaker wiring so the client could remove the enclosure if they needed all of their hatch space.
Better Sounding Jeep
While our improvements on this Jeep were simple, they made a big difference. The new subwoofer provided bass that was heard and felt. The client would have their great-sounding bass now, even with the windows down at interstate speeds.
